What is the Purpose of a Webcam Cover?

Most of us have a camera that we use for work, research or virtual socialization built into our phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop webcam. Sadly, this privilege can render us susceptible to an online attack called camfecting. This is when hackers remotely take over control of your webcam.

Your webcam can be regulated by any hacker very easily. If you click a malicious link  in your email or on a website. Just as with many viruses, a single click will run an executable command on your device that allows remote access to your camera That's all it takes.

However, shielding your computer from a hacker who wants to control your machine and invade your privacy is also easy for you.

If you're using a desktop computer and have a USB webcam, easily unplug the camera when you're not using it, the only protection line you have is to unplug it.

Simply unplugging your camera is not a choice if you're using a laptop, since it's physically part of the device. You'll want to install one yourself, unless you have one of the very rare models that come with a built-in camera cover.

One of the ultimate ways to avoid hackers from using your own camera to photograph you is to cover it with tape or Webcam Cover and  if it's external, disconnect it from your device.

The whole webcam cover idea is a clear one: if you cover the camera lens physically, then the camera is made useless. It makes such a lot of sense! This may be as easy as placing a piece of tape over the camera or a sticky note if you don't need it (as Mark Zuckerberg famously does)

That's not the classiest answer, though. Plus, tape usually leaves some sort of residue behind, and after removing it repeatedly, it will also lose its stickiness. So webcam cover is a better option!
